Abstract: This study explores the role of lifelong learning in sustaining vocational skills in Nigeria, examining strategies, policies, and initiatives that support continuous skill development, professional growth, and career advancement among vocational graduates and professionals. Lifelong learning is crucial for adapting to technological changes, industry shifts, and career progression opportunities in a dynamic labor market. The research aims to (1) analyze the importance of lifelong learning in maintaining vocational skills relevance and career resilience, (2) assess current policies and programs promoting lifelong learning opportunities for vocational graduates and professionals, and (3) propose recommendations for enhancing lifelong learning initiatives and fostering a culture of continuous skill development in vocational education and training systems. A survey research design is justified to gather insights from vocational alumni, professionals, and lifelong learning advocates. A sample size of 300 participants will be selected through purposive sampling to represent vocational graduates, lifelong learning providers, and policy stakeholders in Niger State. Case studies will examine successful lifelong learning programs and their impact on vocational skill retention and career progression. Findings indicated positive perceptions towards lifelong learning benefits, identified barriers such as access to resources and time constraints, and highlighted the role of mentorship and digital platforms in facilitating lifelong learning journeys. Recommendations include promoting flexible learning pathways, expanding digital learning resources, and incentivizing employer-supported training to encourage continuous skill development and career sustainability among vocational professionals.
